Participants take short quizzes about the course content on their mobile devices. At the end of the quiz, they receive a score and view the correct answers. As the results are available in real-time, the teacher can show the aggregated responses by question on the presentation screen, and give comments.
A classroom quiz certainly isn’t new for London’s renowned Academy for Paediatric Gastroenterology (APG) – a pioneer in providing highly specialized education and training. They’ve been instructing health professionals, parents, and guardians caring for children with gastrointestinal and related disorders for years. But how a quiz is administered is changing.
With the help of Survey Anyplace, APG recently pioneered another effort – using smartphones and tablets to give a quiz to instantly gauge each course attendee’s grasp of the curriculum. Dr. Neil Shah, gastrointestinal allergies specialist and research team leader explains the process. “At the end of the course, the instructors would project a URL on the screen. Class attendees would enter the URL on their smartphone or tablet, which took them directly to the Survey Anyplace course quiz. As each student completed their quiz, their results were automatically sent to the Survey Anyplace website, and then projected onto the classroom screen in real time.”
Not surprisingly, the quiz receives very positive feedback from participants, who also enjoyed knowing immediately how they’d performed on the quiz. The new class measurement tool also got high marks from APG. “The Survey Anyplace mobile solution was much more efficient, much more immediate than dedicated feedback equipment or a paper quiz. We’ll also use what we learn to make further refinements and improvements to future course materials.” adds Shah. “Collecting this information electronically also improves our administrative function, helping to verify each attendee’s presence in the classroom, for accreditation and certification purposes.”
“Survey Anyplace made it very easy to create our classroom quiz, ” says Dr. Shah. “We registered on the website and entered the questions and answers for the quiz, as simple as that. Then we uploaded our logo, and the quiz styling automatically applied APG’s branding. When the quiz was created, the Survey Anyplace website generated the unique URL that we would project on the classroom screen that linked to our specific quiz. It couldn’t have been easier.”
