Employee self-evaluation questions

As seen in the sample self evaluation above, you should consider including questions about:

  • Accomplishments
  • Working in a team with colleagues
  • Adherence to processes, e.g. “I turn in documents on time”
  • Quantitative self-evaluation on a number of job-specific skills, e.g. “I am constantly trying to innovate as much as I can”
  • Quantitative self-evaluation on a number of core-skills, e.g. “My attitude is the best” 
  • Strengths
  • Areas for self-improvement
  • Suggestions for improvements in the company/workplace
  • Suggestions about training needs
  • Career expectations

 

For the quantitative evaluation questions, you can use a numeric or star rating question type. Always include the possibility to enter additional free text (non-mandatory), allowing the employee to clarify the score that was given.

It is important that the evaluation can be done efficiently and that the results are automatically transferred to a central system for effective follow-up. Online self-evaluations are ideally suited for this.

While self-evaluation through paper forms, PDF or Word documents is possible, these methods have significant disadvantages. Following the assessment, the data will need to be transferred to a central system which can result in errors and delays.
